Things to Do in Fakenham

In addition to the markets and many other events and festivals that take place in Fakenham, we also have year-round visitor attractions.

Langham Glass

Langham Glass is based on Greenway Lane in Fakenham.  A short walk out from the town centre, but also with ample parking.

The visitor’s centre includes a glassmaking workshop that offers demonstrations and glassmaking experiences. There is also a restaurant and gift shop that sells many British made items, alongside their own crystal that is made on site. They are also home to 741 Awards, that has a showroom within the gift shop, showcasing their high-quality crystal awards and trophies.

Fakenham Gasworks Museum

Fakenham Gasworks Museum is housed in Fakenham’s former gasworks; the only complete town gasworks left in the country. The site is a Scheduled Monument, a rare distinction for an industrial site.

The museum’s collections provide a huge insight into cultural, social and industrial heritage. The displays of lighting, heating, cooking and domestic equipment are housed in the surroundings of the former gasworks, complete with equipment used in the day-to-day running of the plant when it was operational.

Fakenham Lancaster Heritage Trail

Fakenham and its buildings are full of history.  You can step back in time and discover Fakenham’s diverse industrious past, detailing the people and communities who helped create the town of today, by following the blue plaques that form the Fakenham Lancaster Heritage Trail.

Each plaque contains an individual QR Code which can be scanned to find out more about the building it is on.

Fakenham Superbowl

A visit to Fakenham Superbowl is a fun family activity, especially on a rainy day.

In addition to having six lanes of tenpin bowling, there is also a soft play area for younger children, mini amusement arcade, bar, restaurant and escape rooms.

Central Cinema Fakenham

Set in a beautiful, listed Victorian building (retaining some original features!) Fakenham Cinema is a great place to catch the latest release or cinematic event.

In addition to showing daily screenings of the latest films, they are also part of the National Theatre Live network and regularly screen theatre productions.

The cinema was also recently used as a film location for a John Madden film starring Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans!

Fakenham Golf Club

The Fakenham Golf Club Course is set in and around Fakenham Racecourse.

The course has nine holes and can be played twice to be an 18-hole course. To provide a different challenge, the back 9 has eight different tee positions. Par is 71 (36 out 35 back). The course measures 6248 yards (white tees).

Visitors are welcome to play 9 or 18 holes, or a day ticket is available.

River Walk

The River Wensum runs through Fakenham and is the largest chalk-fed river in Norfolk. It is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

A walk along the river is a relaxing pursuit that can include glimpses of many wild birds and Fakenham’s history, such as old railway bridges.

Fakenham Races

Fakenham Racecourse is the only National Hunt racecourse in Norfolk. It holds meetings from October to May. It also offers a caravan and campsite that is open year-round.

There are many reasons to visit Fakenham and enjoy a day out.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
